Disbursing Officers

Debenture

The word is derived from the Latin debeo I ower.  It is an acknowledgement of indebtness usually given by an incorporated company.  It bears a specified or fixed rate of interest which is payable whether or not the company makes profits.  Debentures are usually redeemable by the issuer.

Debit

The left hand side of a T-account.  A charge against a person or account.

Debt Capital

Money loaned to a firm for a considerable period of time (at least twelve months). Providers of debt capital are creditors of the firm and receive an interest in contrast to shareholders who have ownership rights, including the right to a division of profits.

Debtor

A person or an enterprise that owes a debt.  In most business, the debtors arise out of credit sales made.  They are current assets of a firm and form an integral part of the working capital of a business.

Deed

A legal document which has been signed, sealed and delivered.  A written document under seal which is an evidence of a legal transaction.

Deficit

A shortfall of revenue as compared to expenditure.

Deficit Financing

Deliberate budgeting for a deficit.

Depreciation

The financial provision for the diminution in asset value out of profits of a firm.  The loss of value of an asset due to time, normal use, or obsolescence.  A fall in the purchasing power of money i.e. its exchange value in relation to goods and services.  The allocation of the original cost of plant, property and equipment to the particular periods or products that benefit from the utilization of assets.

Direct Costs

Costs which can be reasonable attributed exclusively to the production of particular goods or services, e.g. cost incurred by a department for the sole benefit of the department.

Direct Labour

The labour of those people who work directly on materials converted into finished products; in other words, with units of product designated as the cost object; labour that can be easily associated with units of product.

Direct Material

All raw materials which are an integral part of the finished goods and which can be conveniently assigned to specific physical units.

Direct profit

Sales revenue from a product less the direct costs attributable to that product.

Dirty money

An extra payment made to workers for handling goods of an objectionable nature.

Disclaimer

A statement clause in a deed, contract etc. renouncing, claims, responsibility, duties or powers.  The term is applied to matters where a renunciation or repudiation is desired.

Disclosure

The practice of revealing information especially financial about a firm or company’s activities.  A certain amount of necessary disclosure of data or information about a company is required under the companies Act. 1956.

Discount

A deduction from the catalogue price of an article, in cash or kind.  An incentive or inducement offered by a creditor to debtors to pay promptly.  To acquire a bill of exchange less than its face value, the amount of this discount depending on the length of the unexpired term.  When shares and stocks are issued below the issue price, they are said to be issued at a discount.

Dishonour

When applied to a bill of exchange or cheque, it implies a failure to meet the financial commitment as promised or accepted.

Distribution Costs

Costs related with transferring goods from a supplier to the customer.  They include packing and transportation costs.

Diversification

Expansion of the range of products and services produced by a firm into other related or unrelated industries or markets,.

Dividend

The amount of distributed profit as a percentage of the nominal value of the share capital to which it relates.  A periodical division and distirubtion of profits amongst share-holders. Dividends are usually declared annually, but many companies pay something on account of interim dividend

Double Entry Accounting

An accounting system in which each transaction is recorded and effects two or more accounts with equal debits and credits.

Duality

The concept of double entry.  That every transaction has a dual value aspect i.e. a flow of value from source to a destination.

Duties

Taxes on merchandise or goods entering a country known as customs.  A payment which is evidenced by affixing a stamp known as stamp duty. All imports levied by a Government.

Earned Income

Income derived from work as distinct from income from investments.   Income from salaries, wages, profits, pensions, social-security benefits, annuities etc. which is taxable for income tax purposes.

Embezzle

Dishonestly using someone else’s money; the person whose money is taken may be an employer. Exbezzlement is the appropriation to his own use by an employee of money rightfully belonging to his employer.

Emoluments

The remuneration or salary and other material benefits received for holding a certain position in a firm, company or organization.

Endorsement

A signature, generally on the reverse side of the document given to transfer the rights to which the document given to transfer the rights to which the document gives rise to some other party or person.  Endorsement may or may not be compulsory.

Equity

A right, claim or interest in property.  The net worth of a business, consisting of capital stock, capital  (or paid-in) surplus, earned surplus, (or retained earnings), and sometimes, certain net worth reserves.  Common equity is the part of the total net worth belonging to the common stock holders.  Total equity would include preferred stock holders.  The terms net worth and common equity are often used together.  Ordinary shares or stock. The risk capital of a business.

Equity share capital

The company’s issued share capital excluding any part which carries any right to participate beyond a specified amount in a distribution.

Expenditure

A cash disbursement.  Expenditure of revenue nature is one which is incurred for current or short-term activities and is debited to the profit and loss account.  Capital expenditure is usually heavy in nature and incurred on purchasing assets which are likely to give long term benefits.

Expenses

Expired costs that are deducted from revenue for a given period. These are recurring charges and payments made in cash.

The Google Adsense determines the value on basis of flat rates or Cost per Action, Cost per Click, and Cost per thousand impressions and thereafter pays author. Suppose a webpage contains 5 advertisements and it is viewed 3 times then impressions will be 5x3 = 15.

On the basis of keywords of the webpage, the advertisements to be displayed are decided automatically. Google Adsense is a form of monetization and best works with other forms of Monetization.

In order to attract the traffic and to make advertisers post Ads on the site; blogs relating to hobbies should be written. If a site get large number of impressions then it earns larger amount of revenues.

1. SwiftKey Keyboard :

The typing speed matters a lot. Earlier it was considered that it is necessary to use typing after getting training from the experts and use keyboards attached with personal computers to write content with greater speed. But now the mobile apps are facilitating to write content fastly. Gone are the days to use desktop and laptops; now there is age of mobile telephony. The Google Play Store provides a lot of free to use Applets. The SwiftKey Keyboard is one of them. It predicts the text and helps users to increase their typing speed without moving fingers fastly to type words or phrases. It also predicts the emojis being used frequently in sequence with the words. The young people around the world can easily chat on social media through its use. The swipe feature further helps users to write content without picking the fingers up and down frequently.

2. Landscape Tool for Images :

It is a web based tool freely available to resize and crop the images as per the suitability of different platform of social media like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. If anybody is writing content to be used at any platform and he requires to embed images in the content then this tool helps in resizing and cropping the images.

3. Identification of Fonts :

Sometimes it becomes trouble to identify any font being used in content. Whenever the text is copied and pasted from any website, it may be required to identify the font or the similar fonts to that font. 4. Project Management with Check-lists :

The use of Gantt charts is must in project management and through Gantt charts, each task is scheduled with slotting time periods.  The time management has become a critical thing after the involvement in social media. The employees spend more time in using Whatsapp, Facebook, and Twitter than the time spent in giving much performance. To give constant performance, it is required to maintain to-do lists and be stick to it. There are apps available online and in Google Play Store for maintaining the to-do lists and use project management like engineers. A pin board or check-list enabled app used to track the scheduled activities is Trello available on Trello.com. With this tool, it becomes easier to describe each activity in form of card and add in the checklist for tracking purposes. The images and links to web-pages can also be stored on cards. It is a better substitute to Google Doc with Visual Project Management Tool helping users to have better experience.

5. Text Editing for Grammatical Mistakes :

Everyone cannot easily use MS-word in Android phones to check and correct grammatical errors in the written content. There is a browser-based text editor available to help writers i.e. Hemmingway Editor which highlights the grammatical mistakes or errors and also provides the choices for making corrections. It uses the color codes to describe the types of errors in the content and also has feature to directly export the written content to Wordpress web-page.

Whenever any person decides to write something, he keeps in mind the scenario including the target audience, data already written on that issue, new updates in that area, and the significant points which will definitely help audience in improving their knowledge, skills, and exposure to that issue. However, it is very difficult to point out each and every tip for improving content writing but the following key points can be considered for effective content writing:

Key Points for Content Writing:

(i) Attractive Content:

The written text or content should be so attractive that one should not be able to skip that writing without reading completely.

(ii) Suitable to Target Audience:

The right target audience should be approached within right time and with right title of content. The content should not be much lengthy to communicate the most important points to the audience and tone of the sentences should create curiosity in the mind of readers.

(iii) Crispy with Flavor:

Crispy stuff may be added to enrich the flavor of written content but it should not change the sense of meaning to be communicated.

(iv) Edited Content:

Discarding information that does not quite appropriate, is known as editing. The editing of content should be done again and again until it becomes smooth in reading.

(v) Short Paragraphs:

Use of short paragraphs, bullet lists, and links also make the content more effective.

(vi) Appropriate Words Only:

Use of appropriate words may also make your content more effective. For example, instead of using ‘Indicate’, word ‘show’ can be used. Utilize, Facilitate, Obtain can be replaced with use, help, and get.

(vii) Write after doing Research:

Before writing content, the writer should have done research so that repetitive content should not be written with change in sense of writing; indeed the content should tell something different as per the need of target audience.

(viii) Deliver Key Message:

The content should be strictly designed to deliver a single key message and the whole stuff should be around that key message only.

(ix) References:

The sources of data should also be referred wherever required; so that readers can further read the content from the source of data. For example : read the article on Bone Bank.
Effective content writing is considered as critical as other skills of an individual and one must learn how to write effectively. The production of high-quality content can easily groom your personality and make you skilled for communicating properly.
